Method 44

2,4-Dinitrotoluene (DNT) and 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene (TNT)

This method describes the sample collection and analysis of 2,4-Dinitrotoluene (DNT) and 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene (TNT). Samples are collected by drawing known volumes of air through laboratory modified commercial Tenax-GC resin tubes. The modification consists of the placement of an 8-mm glass-fiber filter disc inside the tube, ahead of the first resin bed. The samples are desorbed with acetone and analyzed by gas chromatography using a Thermal Energy Analyzer (TEA) equipped with an Explosives Analysis Package (EAP).
