Method UOP-588

Total, Inorganic and Organic Chloride in Hydrocarbons by Potentiometric Titration

This method is for the determination of total and inorganic chloride using potentiometric titration.  It is also possible to calculate the organic chloride content in hydrocarbons.  The method is applicable to samples with chloride concentrations of one ppm or higher.

Samples that are polymerized by sodium biphenyl cannot be analyzed by this method and results for samples containing ammonia and/or amines may be biased high.

Method UOP-395 is recommended for lower levels of chloride.
