Method 5510

Chlordane by GC/ECD

This method is for the determination of chlordane. The sample is collected on cellulose ester membrane filters with chromosorb sorbent tubes followed by extraction in 10mL toluene. The sample is then analyzed by Gas Chromatography equipped with electron capture detection. The working range is 0.04 to 1.2 mg/m³ for a 120-L sample. Chlordane, accompanied by a mixture of penta-, hexa-, hepta-, and nonachlorinated compounds, is defined by a group of five chromatographic peaks. It is necessary to determine the percentage of Chlordane and its isomers in the standards used. Note: This is NIOSH method S278 in a revised format.
